West Valley Church

In 1984 Seattle Advent Christian Church started a Bible study group of adults who lived in South King County. By 1985, 12 families were meeting for Sunday School and Morning Worship at a rented community center near Angle Lake. That building was sold after a few months and the fledgling church moved into one of the member’s home until a new facility was found at the Des Moines Masonic Hall. Eventually the church located property on South 277th Street, the Erick Sanders Mansion, which would fulfill their dreams.

The Seattle Church voted to buy the property as a permanent home for the new daughter church. The dilapidated Mansion and its surrounding 34 acres took significant time and money to restore. By September 1986 the building was ready and the congregation moved in, naming it the West Valley Advent Christian Church. Pastor Clio Thomas of the Seattle Church became their Senior Pastor and Pastor Rick Reynolds remained in Seattle.

The congregation and membership flourished and continued to grow at this beautiful facility until it was bursting at the seams with 80 worshipers in 1992. Unfortunately it was not possible to expand on the property because of wetland and slope issues so the congregation purchased the current building on 288th street about two miles away. The Mansion became a center for outreach and ministry including seminars, retreats, weddings, meetings, Christmas boutiques, a live nativity, counseling center, bible study, prayer breakfast, youth activities, AA group, etc. As the Mansion required more repairs than use, a decision was made to sell the Mansion in 2003.
